Needle-felt appliqué and embroidery on wool blanket.
Found and reclaimed materials, wool felt, yarns and cotton embroidery threads.

These small textile studies, draw on a rich tradition of abstract textile making, and painting, stretching back to the weavers of the Bauhaus and one of the great pioneers of abstraction in textiles, Sonja Delaunay. Whilst thinking about sustainability I consider scraps, fragments, waste and reuse. These soft, wooly constructions recall the fuzzy felt pictures of my childhood; now progressed and delighting in the formal explorings and the energy of discarded materials, that has become so important to my practice.

purple: the colour of the suffrage moment - and the artist formerly known as … Of royalty status and power - because of the association with the early pigment extracted by the Phoenicians from the mucus of Murex sea snails - labour intensive, difficult to produce and very expensive.

i find a little bit goes a long way - and needs ochre nearby - but there are really no rules
