Bio

I am an artist and maker based in the UK, living and working in Margate, on the Kent coast. My practice is studio based and experimental. Alongside personal work, I also work on commissioned pieces and interior projects for individuals and organisations.

After a foundation course at Amersham in Bucks, I did a BA in Fine Art: Painting and Printmaking at Ravensbourne School of Art. Many years later I completed an MA in Constructed Textiles at the Royal College of Art. In between my first degree and masters, and whilst raising a family I did a PGCE at Goldsmiths and worked as a secondary school and special needs art teacher. I also worked part time as a freelance graphic designer and textile designer while my children were growing up.  Studying for my masters at the RCA for two years was a pivotal point in my career and an opportunity to reconnect with my affinity for cloth and textile making, which I had suppressed during earlier art school experiences.

With an interest in sustainable textiles, and a belief in craft making and community, for some years after graduating from the Royal College of Art, I combined making personal work and wall based pieces, with small batch production of crafted interiors products. I sold these collections of homewares from a small retail space below my studios in Margate. During that time I was committed to developing an atelier space with an eco-conscious ethos, and creating collections of sustainable, beautifully crafted pieces that were affordable and accessible. However the need to focus fully on my motivations and concerns as an artist, without the constraints of running a retail space and and interiors business eventually became paramount.

I have supplied, shown work and collaborated with the following organisations : Heals: Tottenham Court Rd, Liberty: London, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Flow Gallery: London, Pallant House Gallery Shop: Chichester, Anthropologie: USA, Castor+Pollux Modern Artworks: Brighton, Cornwall Contemporary Gallery: Penzance, Sarah Wiseman Gallery: Oxford, Autour Du Monde: Paris, ReForm School: US, The Art Group, Frank: Whitstable, Selvedge Magazine and Galison Publishing NY.
