n. a moment of awareness that someone you’ve known for years still has a private and mysterious inner life, and somewhere in the hallways of their personality is a door locked from the inside, a stairway leading to a wing of the house that you’ve never fully explored—an unfinished attic that will remain maddeningly unknowable to you, because ultimately neither of you has a map, or a master key, or any way of knowing exactly where you stand.

‘She Comes’

with her orange red Louise Bourgeois inspired legs this is overall probs my favourite work in the green linen quartet. She is the fourth and should have a cat at her feet where the green wedge shape is, but as soon as I went towards the figurative shapes I had intended to include, it got a bit uncomfortable and I didn’t want even a hint of illustration . So the figure is more abstracted - less orderly. I can look at her for longer and still feel curious.

this new clothwork is one of a series of four artworks where I’ve allowed the figure - body - parts - arms, heads, guts, brains, legs and feet into conversation with the abstracted forms that have been louder.
In my show titled SHUFFLE currently at @willandyates in lovely Deal.
..

If you cannot make it in person then please contact @willandyates to enquire about this work and others.
